Accept All Cookies is the title for a series of paintings made in 2022 by American emerging artist Matthew Joseph Tinkler.
Accept All Cookies is focused on the simple course toward equality: charitable individualism. From 2019 to 2022, one of the greatest threats to our culture has been assigning increased value onto group identity. As we move further away from individual merit, we risk inequality, destabilization and civil unrest.
“The art-world is completely taken with this logically incoherent phenomenon. In 2020, I had a studio visit with a black curator and she stressed the point of a lack of diversity in the art-world. And in an effort to solve this issue she would open her first gallery that focuses on black artists. I affably asked her if she noticed the irony of now excluding other races in an effort to overcome inequality. Seemingly not having considered this, she began getting defensive and asked me if I knew what white privilege was. It suffices to say, I’d rather her and the art-world just state that they’re out to settle a score, instead of hiding behind a faux cloak of moral virtue." - Matthew Joseph Tinkler
“I realize that I’m black, but I like to be viewed as a person, and that’s everybody’s wish. That’s what Martin Luther King fought for, that everybody could be treated equal and be viewed as a person. In some ways I can’t understand it, because here we are striving for equality and yet people are going to say I’m not black enough? At a time when actually I thought I was trying to be equal? I try to be a role model for black kids, white kids, yellow kids, green kids. This is what I felt was good about my personality.“ -Michael Jordan
